Missouri Emancipation Day
On January 11, 1865, the delegates of the Missouri state convention, led by Radical Republican Charles Drake, passed the immediate emancipation of all enslaved persons. Joining are representatives of Greenwood Cemetery, Father Dickson Cemetery, and St. Peter’s Cemetery who will share stories of the Black individuals living in our community in 1865. This event is organized by the African American History Initiative of Missouri Historical Society through Thursday Nights at the Museum, a weekly series where the museum exhibits are open late and you can enjoy pop-up activities, a cash bar, food and more!
